Bangkok
The city of Bangkok lies on two banks of the Chao Phya. Chao Phya is the main river in Thailand. The founder of the Chakri Dynasty built the the capital in Bangkok in 1782. It is a place popular among American and European tourists.
Bangkok is the largest city in Thailand as well as main port. It is the cultural, educational, political and economic center of Thailand.
Bangkok has grown and expanded to include the area Thon Buri, which had at one point been the capital of Siam, and the combined area is commonly known as Krung Thep Mahanakhon.
The area of Bangkok, including Thon Buri and other provinces, is approximately 23 miles (37 km). Bangkok is an interesting blend of traditional buildings and modern skyscrapers (see picture on the right).
The population of Bangkok is about 7 million people. This is highly populated city. The city of Bangkok faces many pollution problems as well as traffic congestion and critical housing shortages.
The climate in Bangkok is hot and humid year round with temperatures ranging from 26 to 31 degrees C (78 - 90 degrees F).
Don Muang International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia and is located just on the outskirts of Bangkok.
You can also find numerous beautiful temples in Bangkok, representing traditional Thai architecture. The old section of Bangkok is a very popular place for tourists and visitors. If you are in there, do not miss the Royal Grand Palace (see pictures on the right).
